Electrician Questions

Is Cain Electric licensed?
Yes. We are licensed and bonded in all St. Louis city and county, St. Charles and all surrounding municipalities.

How long has Cain Electric been in business?
We have been offering excellent electrical services since 2003.

Why should I trust your employees in my St. Louis home?
All of our workers undergo extensive background checks, drug and security screening prior to employment, and must partake in the mandatory company safety program. We go to great lengths to keep you and our electricians safe at all times.

What services do you specialize in?
At Cain, we do electrical inspections, generator installation, and everything in between. We are a full service electrical contractor, in the St. Louis area, and can handle any project in any situation. If it has wires and runs off electricity, we can do it.

Is my electrical equipment safe?
Inspections and testing are the best ways to find out if your equipment is safe and should be carried out, often enough, by a licensed electrician.

I reset my breaker but my power is still not on. What next?
Call us immediately at (636) 390-4566.

What is the difference between a fuse panel and a breaker panel?
Both devices are designed to do the same job - trip - when there is an overload of electricity in the system. A modern breaker panel offers a higher level of safety, is mechanical, and can be reset. A fuse must be replaced after its one-time use.

Why do some of my outlets work while others do not?
The outlet could be bad or possibly on a separate faulty circuit. Some outlets wear out and simply need replacement. Make sure to check your breaker to see that everything is working properly and there are no tripped breakers. If everything looks fine, then call a licensed electrician to diagnose and fix your problem.

I don’t know if my home is up to code. Do I need to upgrade?
There is no requirement to bring older homes up to code, but for your safety’s sake, it is recommended. Any new work must be performed to the latest electrical code. If you have a question, contact one of our electrical inspectors.

My lights dim when the air conditioner starts up. What is going on?
This is a common problem in older electrical systems. When an appliance turns on - one that requires a lot of power to get immediate motor speed - there is a momentary fluctuation of electricity throughout the system. Over time, this can wear down your system and cause your breaker to trip frequently. The electrical load needs balancing and upgrading your wiring or electrical service panel are possible solutions for correcting this problem.

What is a conduit?
A PVC or metal tube that acts as protection for the wires running through.

What is the National Electrical Code (NEC)?
The National Fire Protection Association established this set of rules to outline safe procedure and correct electrical wiring practices.

What are your service hours?
Normal service hours are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. 24 hour emergency service is available.

Do you have any other questions?
Please feel free to call us anytime you have a question or concern. At Cain, we are dedicated to building mutual beneficial relationships and giving you the best electrical service in the greater St. Louis area.
